The cimbalom and the tárogató first piqued the world's interest at the end of the 19th century, and since then they have found a place in an increasing number of genres: in addition to Gypsy, folk and classical music, they are now also found in world music and jazz. In the 21st century, this process of integration has accelerated even more, and in fact, the cimbalom is present in many "border zones”, holding its own in traditional, jazzy and classical music environments, and even these boundary areas themselves are interwoven together in many musicians' work. Such is the case with Kálmán Balogh, who has served as the host of the series since the World-Wide festival was first launched in 2012, and on this date he will be presenting his latest album, which, in addition to the above, also gives pop music a nod. Also taking part in this conversation relating to Balogh's concert will be his band's brass player, Péter Bede: they and festival curator Endre Liber will discuss the new record, the genres and styles that are intertwined in it (folk, jazz and pop), and the preparatory work and technical tools required of musicians working in crossover genres.
