Hey, June!

The Hey, June! programme series, running each year since Müpa Budapest first opened its doors in 2005, is synonymous with the end of the academic year and theatre season and the start of the summer holidays and festivals. This year’s mini-festival kicking off the summer in the first week of June treats everyone to a series of one-off concerts, with the return of Amorf Ördögök, a summary and reinterpretation of their work by Slow Village, new material from András Áron & the Black Circle Orchestra, an intimate concert with Solére, and an expanding sound from Samurai Drive.

Reuniting after seven years in the summer of 2024 are the members of the legendary Hungarian band Amorf Ördögök, who define the genre they work in as ‘kacatpop’ (kitsch pop). On 1 June, the trio returns to the same stage, together with their accompanying musicians and János Kulka as a guest vocalist.

Slow Village, who play old-school hip-hop in a fashion that is not the least bit anachronistic, have attained headliner status since forming in 2016. Now they are coming to Müpa Budapest on 2 June together with guests and a show specially put together for this evening, offering both a summary and a little bit of reinterpretation of everything they have created so far.

One of Hungary’s most prominent and versatile songwriter/performers and musician/bandleaders (familiar from his work with LAZARVS, Apey & the Pea and Trillion), András ‘Apey’ Áron adds richness and colour to live concerts of his solo folk-sounding vocals with the well-known musicians of the Black Circle Orchestra. On 6 June, he will also be playing material from his latest solo production, 2023’s The Moment.

Singer/songwriter/producer Zsófia Szigeti released her first song under the name Solére in 2020 and quickly gained popularity on the contemporary Hungarian pop music scene. In 2023, she became the face of an international Spotify campaign, and for 7 June she promises an intimate concert about her relationships, exploring both the highs and lows.

Known from Middlemist Red and Mordái, respectively singer/guitarist Soma Nóvé and electronica/bass guitar player Dániel Riederauer first paired up as Samurai Drive in 2019. Joining them on 8 June to play their music in arrangements hitherto only existing in the duo’s heads will be Crazy 88.
