Loop Doctors, otherwise known as Áron Romhányi and Péter Szendőfi, combine modern and popular trends in contemporary music (drum'n'bass, jungle, breakbeats) with elements of improvisational jazz. They use a range of electronic effects and samples in their music, yet their unique sound is mainly achieved through the natural sounds of their instruments. The idea to form Loop Doctors first came to the two musicians in 2005 when, while recording his solo album, Péter Szendőfi chatted with the bass guitarist Gary Willis. They recorded their first album, High Voltage, in 2006, featuring Willis and Kornél Fekete-Kovács on trombone. This album won them a Fonogram music award. In their follow-up album, the 2008 White Orange Black, they pushed past the limits of typical modern orchestration: the bass part is not played on a double bass or bass guitar, as is customary in modern jazz, but on the tuba, courtesy of Roland Szenpáli. Their most recent album is the 2014 Entering a Room, which was recorded in New York and features the saxophones of Chris Hunter and Brandon Fields alongside the guest musicians from their previous albums. This concert will feature a special guest, Eric Marienthal, the two-time Grammy winning American saxophonist and one-time member of the Chick Corea Elektric Band.
The Loop Doctors, whose music blends the latest styles in a genre usually known as nu jazz, perform regularly in clubs and are capable of meeting the needs of those of us who love a good dance as well as a good listen.
