After ten years, KFT return to the Müpa Budapest stage as the emblematic band of the Hungarian new wave, with special guests from China, Marocco and Greece, all of whom live in Hungary. Their special programme put together for this evening is an exciting blend of the band's original music with a world music influence, featuring their best-known songs and some rarely heard numbers. Having withdrawn from the scene in the nineties, KFT has played regularly over the last decade and a half, releasing several new albums. The band performed a memorable gig in the Budapest Sports Arena in 2011, as well as playing the first ever pop concert in the Hungarian State Opera House in 2014.
Zhang Yu (Carolyn) is a coloratura soprano of Chinese extraction who Hungarian audiences will already know from her appearances as The Queen of the Night from The Magic Flute, Violetta in La traviata, and Liù from Turandot. She stands out from other sopranos due to her four-octave vocal range. The virtuoso Greek qanun player and composer Sofia Labropoulou has worked with some of the best-known figures in world and contemporary music. Her unique tools of musical expression forge a link between folk music, classical Ottoman music and the western music of the middle ages. Saïd Tichiti is a Moroccan musician and the first to introduce gnawa music to the Hungarian audience. This ancient and sacred form of trance music was referred to as William Burroughs as "4,000 year-old rock and roll”. The artist has influenced important musicians from the Rolling Stones to Santana and Ornette Coleman.
