The more things change, the more they stay the same with the afternoon talent exchange for the 13th Jazz Showcase! Once again, from 7 to 9 February nine young bands will be on show on two great venues at Müpa Budapest, Banner Square and the Atrium. The most exciting and extraordinary group will be chosen by an international jury of illustrious personalities to win the chance to further display their talents both at Müpa Budapest and beyond.
This event is presented in association with the Hungarian Jazz Federation, the Zemplén Festival and the ELTE Jazz Studies Research Group.
Balázs Rodek graduated from the jazz guitar department of János Kodolányi College, where he studied under Miklós Birta and István Gyárfás. He then attended a masterclass from the world famous jazz guitarist Jonathan Kreisberg in New York and Slovenia. The other two members of the trio are essential figures on the Hungarian jazz and easy listening scene, lending their talents to a number of groups. Among others, Ádám Bögöthy is a member of the Modern Art Orchestra, the Csaba Czirják Trio, the Júlia Karosi Quartet and the Szabolcs Oláh Quartet. Dániel Ferenc Szabó is the drumming engine behind MÖRK, the Bálint Gyémánt Trio, shinterz. and Indigo. The trio formed in February 2018 and their repertoire features compositions written by the band leader. Their Song of the Day project narrates the story of a single day, where each period of the day is represented by a corresponding song.
