Our selection of exhibits for this year's Budapest Wagner Days demonstrates the impact Wagner had on fine and theatrical arts, both through his theoretical writings and his musical works, as well as the relationship various artists from different countries had with his legacy. Although the Wagner-effect is not primarily to be observed in the choice of topic, the pictures exhibited nonetheless allow us to trace what Tristans, what Isoldes and what other Wagner figures populated the stages of Europe at the turn of the last century. What is more, we will see how the stage scenery changed to meet the emerging challenges. Rosicrucians, theosophists, movement artists, occultists, adherents to the reformation - charting what went before, it should come as no surprise that it was while listening to a Wagner overture that the abstract image was conceived in the head of Kandinsky.
