I'm So Excited! is one of Pedro Almodóvar's strangest films - even Almodóvar fans will admit it. Yet at first glance it appears to be very simple. The passengers on a plane find out that the aircraft won't be able to land safely. There is a possibility they may keep flying up through the sky all the way to heaven. Yet nothing is certain, except one thing: the passengers have to come face to face with their lives and their lies. They have to take a new look at everything they have left on the ground. But how seriously can we take all of this? The retro titles of the film already offer a clue, but it's hard to be sure. At times, the film resembles a farce, an operetta, a drama or a melodrama. Then when it comes to references and quotations, Almodóvar knowingly cites his earlier films, his youth and his own reading.
To find out whether the plane lands safely at La Mancha airport, you will have to watch the film. You might also ponder that the choice of that particular airport is no coincidence: Almodóvar grew up in the region. So where does this journey really end up? Where do the passengers actually want to go? You sometimes get the feeling that you're bearing witness to an inner journey. Once upon a time, this kind of tale would take place on an ocean liner, now it is told among the clouds. And below the passengers lies the world they want to break away from, as they simultaneously wish they could lay their feet once again on solid ground.
I'm So Excited is a madcap, at times infinitely vitriolic game of chance. Contrary to every expectation, the warmth still shines through. God knows how, but in the midst of such madness, it still at times touches our hearts.

The screening has been made possible with the cooperation of the Spanish Embassy in Budapest.
