Zbigniew Cybulski died in a train accident in 1967 at the age of 39. In this film, Andrzej Wajda set out to erect a monument to the Polish actor. Or who knows what? Since Cybulski was not simply Wajda's favourite: he was also an icon. Just like James Dean or the outstanding actors of the French Nouvelle Vague, he was the embodiment of the new generation. As the story has it, the established director was aiming to capture the actor's legend on celluloid, and by doing so, to find another star. Nobody should anticipate an biographical film. Everything for Sale is something much more personal, pervaded by confession with irony and self-irony. Anyway, a star is born before our eyes: his name is Daniel Olbrychski.
