In a small town in eastern Hungary, the trees suddenly begin shedding their spring leaves. What could have happened - a natural disaster, or human malfeasance? How is it possible for people to continue living their day-to-day lives in such altered circumstances? János Koroknai, the Hungarian grammar teacher at the town's high school, sets about investigating the mystery.
