The title of our series - Moral Anxiety - is strictly speaking the name of an important period in Polish cinema. The films made in the country between 1976 and 1981 give a harsh response to the conflicts and moral dilemmas of the era. Two unique works are typical of its early days: Man of Marble (Andrzej Wajda) and Krzysztof Zanussi's film Camouflage. During this same period, Hungarian film-makers were drawn more to the grotesque and motion pictures with finely crafted aesthetics (excluding perhaps Zoltán Fábri's film The Fifth Seal). Camouflage is a moral provocation. You're sitting in the cinema, and a question is shoved in your face. How do you answer? With rational conformity or by adhering to moral principles? This film will give us plenty to talk about.

This series has been made possible with the cooperation of the Polish Institute in Budapest.
