"It's just a fairy tale!” - and fairy tales are to be taken very seriously. Including yours! It is a rhetorical question whether a young adult today spends more time reading poems or in front of the monitor. The two worlds are seemingly mutually exclusive, which is what makes this theatrical attempt to reconcile them so exciting. It is a "multi-role” total-art monodrama, as conceived for the stage by actor Miklós Turek.

The performance provides a glimpse into the blurry everyday life of a gamer who, escaping from the world, is unable to limit his passion for gaming. But one day, the tales by János Pilinszky that come to life on the walls of his room free him from the captivity of his monitors, and he regains his life. The characters from the fairy tales become the characters in a game, and then the characters of his own life.
Pilinszky was one of the most significant creative artists of post-war Hungarian literature. A special slice of his oeuvre is made up of fairy tales in verse not written specifically for children, four of which the production World of Pilinszky weaves into a single story and places them in a completely new context: The stories The Bird and the Maiden, The Song of the Stone-Hearted King, Fabula and The Golden Bird will come to life in a highly contemporary environment. This joint show from the Poetry Theatre and the Zichy Theatre Workshop offers a selection of "stories of being” for slightly and very "grown up” kids alike. Together, Gábor Karcis's animation, Miklós Szitha's music and the performances of Magdolna Rúzsa, Gábor Gundel Takács, Péter Galambos and Csenge Nagy Kasza - alongside Turek in the role of the protagonist - will create an extraordinarily rhythmic dramatic world. Turek has been introducing one of the greatest figures of the last 150 years of Hungarian poetry to a new generation: this special production promises to be a literary, musical and visual extravaganza.
