Spring is the season of renewal and the rebirth of nature. March, the first month of spring, is often known by the ancient Hungarian name of ‘a kikelet hava' (the month of bloom), but folk calendars also refer to it as ‘tavaszelő' (ante-spring). There are several dates to remember in March: Pope Gregory, the patron saint of schools, is celebrated on the 12th. The gergelyjárás (Gregory procession) dates back to the 16th century, when students collected donations for themselves and their teachers, summoned new students into school and showed them school life. 18, 19 and 21 March are the name days of Sándor, József and Benedek. It is believed that these days bring an end to the long, cold winter and herald the beginning of a fruitful spring: "Sándor, József, Benedek bring a bag full of warmth. But if the bag is empty, a third is all you get.” This performance introduces these spring folk customs as dances, songs and games - with the cooperation of young people who cherish these worthy traditions.

The performance will be followed by a free activity session at Banner Square entitled Reverberation for all holders of tickets for the performance.
