By its very nature, music is capable of presenting mutually contradictory phenomena. It was the Baroque style, lively and illustrative in spirit, that first exploited this opportunity. Since then, countless pairs of opposites have appeared in operas, cantatas, symphonies and chamber works. Now the Müpa Budapest audience will get a glimpse into the world of war and peace.

The outstanding American coloratura mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato is one of the most celebrated opera divas of our time - and nothing conveys the quality of her vocal skills and her power as a performing artist better than the fact that she is able to maintain her extraordinary popularity even with Cecilia Bartoli as a competitor in the same vocal type. The Müpa Budapest audience has already had been experienced first-hand how direct and suggestive the atmosphere of a DiDonato concert can be when the singer, accompanied by the excellent ensemble Il Complesso Barocco, gave a performance of Baroque arias - entitled Drama Queens - in the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall in November 2013.
Now - favouring this kind of logic in compiling programmes - DiDonanto is bringing yet another theme-based concert with a no-less excellent ensemble in the form of Il Pomo d'Oro, playing under the baton of Maxim Emelyanychev. Their programme, In War and Peace - Harmony through Music, is backed by a joint album aimed at showing, through the music of the great Baroque composers, both the belligerent and amicable faces of people from eras past. The programme is both dramatic and lyrical at the same time - and naturally powerfully depictive in spirit throughout. Opera heroines will come to life before the audience's eyes and - through their behaviour, both exemplary and otherwise - inspire music listeners to seek inner peace for their souls amidst the conflicts of the external world.
