Irrespective of genre, Marcus Miller is one of the most influential contemporary musicians in the world. In addition to winning two Grammy Awards and an Edison Achievement Award, Marcus was also selected as a UNESCO Artist for Peace in 2013. Miller's 'fate was sealed' in his twenties when he became a member of Miles Davis's band, where he took on on music-writing, instrumentation and producing tasks on several of Davis's albums, including Tutu, one of the most important albums in jazz history. In the meantime, Miller also began a solo career, winning the acclaim of industry experts and the general public alike with a series of albums released under his own name. As well as Davis, Miller has also had an enduring influence on the musical careers of David Sanborn, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Al Jarreau, Lalah Hathaway and Wayne Shorter. He has also found success as a composer of several film scores, including for the Oscar-nominated film Marshall. And as if that weren't enough, Miller also hosts two weekly radio shows, one in the US, the other in the UK. Just like his one-time mentor, Miller has for many years played alongside young and talented musicians, recording albums together and performing concerts all over the world. Miller was appointed spokesman for the UNESCO Slave Routes Project, a role that inspired his 2015 Grammy-nominated album Afrodeezia, recorded in collaboration with African, South American and Caribbean musicians. His latest album, Laid Black, see Miller further exploring his Afro-American roots with a blend of elements of hip-hop, gospel, trap and R'n'B.
