The first performers on International Jazz Day are the audience favourites from this year's Jazz Showcase, the Kriszta Koncz Group. Winning the audience vote means that the eight-member band - founded by the singer and band leader who also lends her name to the group - have earned the opportunity to perform at the Festival Theatre on 30 April, while the professional jury also praised their sophisticated, brilliantly constructed and thoroughly enjoyable show.

Not content with writing original songs and sweeping her listeners off their feet with her vocals and stage presence, Kriszta Koncz also fronts an eight-person band, too. Ábel Tompa has also won praise for his arrangements of the songs, which are rooted in jazz yet interwoven with pop and American folk sounds of the 1960s and 1970s. Most of the group's members are professional jazz musicians. Each of them has a unique musical past, with their studies and inspirations stretching from jazz and classical music to pop, folk and theatre music too. The songs of the Kriszta Koncz Group are performed by this thrilling musical collective. The tracks tackles a range of different topics, yet all still possess a clearly discernible style. Just like the songs themselves, the singer's lyrics - written in English - reflect on momentary moods, personal experiences and visions, imbued with the colours of nostalgia and melancholy.
In addition to the Jazz Showcase Audience Award, the band have also won the chance to perform a concert at the Veronika Harcsa Courtyard of the Valley of Arts, while Kriszta Koncz and Levente Kapolcsi-Szabó will also appear at the 606 Club in London.
