Along with the best-known Ghymes output, this New Year's concert will feature a few pieces from Tamás Szarka's solo album Sósósó and the grandiose songs he wrote for the Saint Stephen's Day fireworks display in Budapest on 20 August 2018.

Szarka, a Kossuth Prize-winning performer, composer and poet, has been a presence on the stage for 40 years. Beyond their literary-quality lyrics, his songs are known for his unique and now familiar style. His music and lyrics impact the intellect, the emotions and the senses. The music comes from a profound place and provides its listeners with strength. His career as a composer has been an almost unprecedented success story. Over the decades, he has composed more than 300 songs (in the 35 years of its existence, the music group Ghymes has so far come out with 27 independent albums, for which Szarka composed the great bulk of the music, along with the lyrics. He is also credited for the music and poems performed at the Saint Stephen's Day fireworks display in Budapest on 20 August 2018. This grandiose 30-minute work is about the instructions given by the beatified Hungarian king, about Hungary and its birth and survival, and about the relationship people of today have with it. Szarka's full-length musical theatre pieces have all been greeted with success. He has given more than 3000 concerts in 25 countries around the world, including four major concerts at the Budapest Arena. In 2016, he gave a joint concert with the world-famous Grammy-winning guitarist Al Di Meola.
