It is not only as a pianist and composer that Dezső Oláh is a significant figure on the Hungarian jazz scene: once a youthful talent known by the diminutive name 'Dezsőke' but now a Junior Prima Award-winner, he would go on, after transmuting music by Kodály into jazz, to come out with Intermezzo, a contemporary jazz production treating the cycle of the days of the week. The members of his trio and his guests are luminaries of their instruments, and one of the pieces they will be joining him in this evening is the première of his work Hungarian Gypsy Rhapsody, inspired by the Roma musical tradition as a source.

Double bassist Péter Oláh is an outstanding member of many ensembles: his singular stability and opulent skills as a soloist make him a sure foundation of any production. Trio Acoustic, the ensemble he shares with his older brother, has enjoyed major success in Japan, among other places. Drummer András Lakatos Pecek started out as one of the great hopes of past years and in large measure he has already justified this confidence, having earned tremendous acclaim as a member of both Béla Szakcsi Lakatos's ensemble New Gypsy Jazz and the Pecek Lakatos Trio. Dezső Oláh met Shang ZiMing two years ago during Balázs Bágyi's tour of China, and they made their first joint recording soon afterwards. In spite of his young age, Ming is already a university professor and, thanks to his musicality and instrumental technical skills, well on his way to joining the élite of the international jazz world. Oláh has always marvelled at the musicianship of French wind player Christophe Monniot, which combines in equal measures a respect for traditions with a constant search for a path forward. His playing integrates perfectly into the character of the Intermezzo project.
