The Israel-born Avishai Cohen is generally considered one of the great virtuoso double bass players of our time, and has played alongside Chick Corea, Bobby McFerrin and Herbie Hancock. He has also found success with his own style and albums, which feature jazz characterised by extremely complex rhythms and elements of Middle Eastern (Arab, Jewish) and Andalusian music. While Cohen's trio has an ever-changing line-up, it was these three musicians who recorded the album Gently Disturbed in 2008, which went on to become a cult hit. Guiliana and Maestro then became the leaders of their own popular groups (the former also drummed on David Bowie's final album). They are much sought-after and highly engaged musicians, then, which is why it is a true wonder that they are back playing once again and that we will have the chance to see them in action. Cohen has already enchanted Müpa Budapest audiences on three separate occasions, while the other two artists have also performed here with their own groups. This concert to celebrate their successful album is made even more special by the fact that it is a part of Cohen's grand 50:50:50 project. He will be turn 50 in 2020, and is planning 50 concerts in 50 countries. Luckily for us, Hungary is one of them.
