During the Christmas holidays, our hearts are filled with goodness and love once more. In the alien clamour of our chaotic world, we can draw strength from the profundity of folk melodies and texts as we prepare for Advent. This concert offers an opportunity to discover and preserve the transitory treasures of our spirit when we are in the holiday mood.

The songs and other music to be performed in this Advent programme by Márta Sebestyén, winner of the Kossuth Prize and Liszt, UNESCO and Prima Primissima awards, span centuries and cultures, enlisting the aid of both written sources and the rich legacy of the oral tradition. Her companion on stage will be Judit Andrejszki, Hungary's 'angelically voiced' grande dame of early music, with whom Sebestyén has been working, to their audience's great delight, for ten years now.
Sebestyén is one of the few Hungarian performers who represent the country's culture both at home and abroad in the most credible possible fashion. Her concerts bring the folk song tradition collected by Bartók and Kodály to life, and her talent, vocal training and magical presence all combine to make her a one-of-a-kind phenomenon. A Baroque soprano, harpsichordist and organist, Judit Andrejszki promotes Hungarian early music all over the world. With a voice that her fans refer to as 'angelic' and a unique performance style fuelled with primal energy, she has dazzled audiences across the globe. This concert will be a collaboration between two artists distinguished as performers in their genres of folk music and early music.
