'The harvest is the type of communal work in which there is a rich tradition, in which work and feasting come together. Its festive nature has especially grown over the centuries. Lively vineyards feature music, song and gunfire. Within the harvest traditions of the twentieth century, one can find elements from different ages, including from agriculture, masked and dramatic customs, as well as those from communal life in the time of guilds. The harvest traditions of the present are tied to a procession and a dance, or just plain revelry,' the Hungarian Folk Encyclopaedia states. These traditions can be discovered by city dwellers through the performances of heritage-preserving folk groups, which, again quoting form the encyclopaedia: 'present peasant traditions in a complex way (through song, dance music, customs, games and costumes) on the stage in an organized fashion, consciously preserving them, and displaying a folk tradition through their own songs, dances and clothes.' With our concert the audience can get to know the vibrant and joyful harvest traditions as well as the folk ensemble presenting them, and they can peek into some of what goes into preparing for a harvest ball.

Between 9.45 and 10.30, we will be running a free playful, interactive session for children in the Auditorium entitled Tune-Up. We look forward to welcoming groups and individuals who hold tickets to the subsequent performance.Register via e-mail to csip@mupa.hu, stating the number of participants and their ages, by the Wednesday before the performance at the latest.
(The session will take place with a minimum of six children.) The activity is recommended for children aged 6 and over.
