What could be better than a light yet substantial late-morning conversation, with a light sprinkling of jazz music? Perhaps if the conversation itself is also about jazz. The stars of The Instruments of Jazzland series are the ‘tools' of music: its instruments. The students will get to know them with the help of live music and expert musicians. This term, the teachers and students of the jazz department of the Liszt Academy will narrate the story about the most commonly featured instruments of the genre - all those that would fit on the tour bus - and much else besides!

Jazz is a thrilling genre of music. The instruments that are used to play it are equally exciting. But is there a music tool that is only capable of really letting itself go in the world of jazz? Arguably, the piano as a princely chameleon among instruments - it is equally at home in all contexts, whether in classical music, pop music or jazz. But what is an electric piano capable of, and why has it become such a fundamental instrument in jazz? What kind of role does the guitar play, and what kind of long path did it travel in classical music before it found its place in jazz, too? The answers to these questions and more will be revealed to all children who choose to embark on a journey of discovery in the realm of Jazzland. Here, they can find out that improvisation is even more important in consecutive solos from different musicians, and also learn about whether composition is the result of inspiration from the ‘muse's kiss' or hard intellectual and emotional work.
