The brief history of the Boomwhackers began on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. In the mid-1990s, Craig Ramsell was recovering from medical treatment at home when he noticed that cardboard tubes of various lengths produced different sounds when he hit them together. Inspiration struck: all he then had to do then was work to make it a reality. He began a small family start-up business to manufacture colourful plastic tubes of varying lengths that, when hit against each other, the floor or the wall, are capable of providing a complete musical experience. As the years passed, to cope with the considerable strain they are subjected to the tubes became more durable, and Boomwhackers have gone on to become an indispensable part of countless training and educational activities, from corporate team-buildings to creative sessions for elementary school students as an introduction to music. The playful and liberating effect of 'jamming' is a great way to develop your ability to work as part of a team. With plastic tubes tuned to a musical pitch and some rookie musicians, i.e. the adventurous participants, the members of Ethnosound build a living xylophone. Playing and practicing simpler rhythms is just the start, as by the end of the session you will be playing well-known melodies together!
