Gypsy music is so multifaceted that it is almost impossible to make any generalisations about it. If you think only of the Hungarian variations of Gypsy music, you can find anything from slow lyrical ballads to fast-moving dance songs. There are famous Gypsy musicians at the forefront of many types of Hungarian music, including folk music, verbunkos, nóta and mulatós (party) music. Not to mention jazz, which may seem an incongruous addition to the list but which nonetheless bears many similarities. Guszti Balogh is a noted purveyor of innovative world music and urban, authentic Gypsy music. Gypsy music has formed an integral part of his life since childhood and he is completely at home in the traditional Gypsy world. He founded his first group, Nomada, in 2005, creating authentic Romanian Gypsy music with a truly unique sound, before later joining up with Edina 'Mókus' Szirtes and Fabula Rasa. He found international success with the East Gipsy Band and flirted with a rock, punk and pop direction with Vojasa, founded in 2011, though naturally Romanian Gypsy music still formed the starting point for their sound.
