The cobza and the hurdy-gurdy? The gardon and the viola? How did these strange contraptions come about?! The unstoppable growth of technology permeates and dominates our everyday lives, which is why it is sometimes good for the heart and mind to see some some traditional instruments - like the ones mentioned above - which represent a unique world of sound. Of course, expert hands are needed to bring them to life, and these experts will show you how to have a lot of fun with no gadgets in sight!

One of the defining characteristics of folk music is that it is easy to play it using everyday objects, often those found in the kitchen, and that it was performed on musical instruments that could be passed down by family tradition. The 'science' of making instruments and playing music is handed down from generation to generation. The poor person really did cook with what they had, and it was for this reason that folk music literally became a part of everyday life. Everyone had a table surface, the side of a cupboard or a washbasin on hand to beat out a rhythm, while you can also coax a surprisingly varied style of music just by grabbing a couple of spoons. The Gadget-Free Fun show features both familiar and unknown instruments from Hungarian folk culture. From strumming and percussion instruments, we will encounter, for example, the gardon, the cobza, the hurdy-gurdy and the zither. From the string instruments, we have several varieties of violin, the double bass and its 'little brother', the cello, not to mention violas.
