The Pannonia Folk Dance Ensemble will also bring to Müpa Budapest the collections, decades-old archive materials and still-living folk traditions that can still teach us so much today. As we journey through time and space, we can once again encounter the dances and customs of selected regions: from the emergence of spring to Pentecost. After visual presentations of Zsuzsanna's Day balls and the festivities of Farsang (Carnival), we will also enjoy a taster from the ‘zöldágjárás' (green branch march) to welcome spring, and learn about how Gergely-járás (Gregory's journey), a game where schoolchildren collect money for charity and give thanks, was once played. The traditions of the Easter celebration are also brought to life on the stage, with the superb folk musicians of the Zagyva Band providing the rhythms for two dances, the Domaház ‘karikázó' and the Nagyecsed ‘verbunkos'. The dancing feet heralding the arrival of spring will belong to the Youth group and ‘Barkóca' and ‘Berkenye' children's groups of Kistarcsa's tradition-preserving Pannonia Folk Dance Ensemble. Folk dance and folk music teacher Krisztina Benedek will tell us about folk games, while the host for the event will be Zoltán "Batyu” Farkas, a legendary figure in Hungarian folk dance culture.
