For 500 years, the world has been pondering the meaning of Mona Lisa's smile. Anyone visiting the Louvre will almost certainly head immediately for Leonardo Da Vinci's timeless masterpiece, and it is not just tourists that are captivated. The work has inspired many other genres of art, such as literature and film, and helps us formulate questions related to our present day reality. The challenge taken on by Zsófia Nemes and her team is unique, however, in considering the life and works of the genius through dance and music, the language of the body.

Creative people have always wondered how, from what and why the geniuses of human history have created their works. And while there is no definitive answer to be found, contemporary artists inspired by the works of the old master can help us, today's audience, to find our place in the world. This choreographed dance performance by the Zsófia Nemes-led PR-Evolution ensemble is a perfect example of this, utilising a full array of gestures and movements to examine Leonardo's inner world and the complexity of his personality. We are indebted to Leonardo da Vinci as an unsettlingly versatile polymath of the Renaissance. This dance performance, which is built around individual images, begins with an image of the cave scene that the scientist recounted in his autobiographical memoirs. You will have the chance to hear about Leonardo's world and his thoughts on the future, much of which would later come true. With their bodies, the dancers reflect on the visions of the maestro. Among other things, Da Vinci's Smile discusses the fear of death, the experience of flying and a fantasy of creation, though you will also learn how the first robot in the history of the world was born.

The event will be followed by a free activity session on Banner Square entitled Reverberation for groups holding tickets to the performance.
