Following Orpheus and Eurydice and Antigone, Yvette Bozsik returns to the stage of Müpa Budapest with another classical Greek theme presented in collaboration with the National Dance Theatre.
Oedipus, King of Thebes, learns of a prophecy that the city will be cursed until the death of the previous king is avenged. Oedipus curses the perpetrator. When he discovers that he himself performed the act, he remains true to his word and carries out the sentence he himself pronounced, blinding and exiling himself. The blind prophet Tiresias sees into the future, but his pleas are ignored and he is unable to halt the hero as he rushes into the arms of tragedy.
With expressive scenes that follow the structure of the tragedy but are nevertheless firmly grounded in the present day, the choreography depicts the primal sin and the catharsis that it brings. The set is an integral part of the dance drama and foreshadows the fulfilment of the prophecy and tragic outcome. Paris-based Swiss composer Philippe Heritier created the music with a contemporary sound and modern effects.
