Ballet lives! The performers are young, the audience ageless. Beauty, play, momentum, tension, rivalry, coming together and growing apart - all expressed through the language of movement. Along with excerpts from popular works, the graduating students will dance a representative compilation from Petipa's largely unknown ballet Esmeralda. They will then close the programme with a new piece titled An Untold Story, created for them by Igor Kirov.
In nine years of professional training at the Hungarian Dance Academy, students are taught the age-old traditions of classical ballet. At the same time, they are also prepared to interpret the works of contemporary choreographers. Although the curriculum is shared, over time role types are established so that at the gradation performance everyone has the opportunity to present themselves in the styles and roles that suit them best. The graduating students have by now developed from auditioning children nine years ago into young artists meriting attention from both the Hungarian and international audience, as well as from leaders of dance ensembles from all over the world. Over the years, the Hungarian students have been joined first by dancers from Romania, and later by others from Japan and Italy. In just a few more weeks, the members of this year's graduating class will scatter to different stages around the world.
