Piano Plays:

The works of László Velekei always present the tension between individual deeds and society's judgement. To create his choreography PianoPlays, however, he chose a theme that is familiar to all of us: love. This production made up of short etudes shows different faces of love, which sometimes remind us of a stormy sea, and other times of a hidden brook slowly burbling away. A battle and game between two people: to injure and be injured, to heal and be healed. But who actually bleeds to death from a wound caused to another? Stepping into the 'ring of love' will be the leading dancers of the Ballet Company of Győr. They will be paired with an audio recording featuring the youthful energy, outstanding technical virtuosity and individual musical vision of pianist János Balázs, as he interprets works by Franz Liszt and Richard Wagner along the lines of his own ideas. In the first half of the evening, the Ballet Company of Győr will perform excerpts from PianoPlays - their highly acclaimed ballet of etudes set to the works of Liszt and Wagner.

Romance:

A sharp white light splits the space, illuminating a man. All is silent. The sounds of dancers slapping their thighs filtres in. The rhythm speeds up, growing more and more intense. Then the silence returns. The man collapses. People appear in the background: the women tie on black headscarves,
László Velekei first worked with the music of Zoltán Kodály in 2013, when he created the Ballet Company of Győr's highly successful piece Kodály. Rethinking this work, he has crafted his choreography Romance, which slices through Kodály's work from every angle, thus paying homage to the world-famous Hungarian composer, musicologist and folk music researcher.

The performance titled PianoPlays - etudes set to works by Liszt and Wagner was commissioned by Müpa, the premiere was on May 18, 2018.
