As part of the Rising Stars programme launched by the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO) in 1995, the concert halls that make up the organisation each year send out a new crop of talented young musicians and ensembles on a European concert tour that, for some years now, has given the Müpa Budapest audience the chance to get to know them.
Briton Tamsin Waley-Cohen has already played with the Royal Philharmonic, the London Philharmonic and the BBC Orchestra, with Tamás Vásáry among the conductors she has worked with. Chamber music plays an important role in her career, and this genre is also the focus of the Honeymead Festival she set up ten years ago. As her programme shows, she loves an adventure, which means that she has found the perfect partner in her countryman Huw Watkins, who is an active participant in the island nation's musical life as a composer as well as a pianist.
Tamsin Waley-Cohent was nominated for the Rising Stars programme by: Town Hall & Symphony Hall Birmingham

Mariam Batsashvili commenced her studies in her native Georgia and continued them at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar. In the city of Liszt and Goethe, she took first place in the international piano competition held there in 2011, and second in Granada in 2012, and then emerged victorious from the Liszt Piano Competition in Utrecht in 2014, while also later going on to win the the prestigious Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli Prize in 2015. This opened the door to world fame, and she has dazzled audiences in a number of European countries with her amazing performances. For this concert, as with previous ones, she's picked out works that perfectly exhibit her many skills and the special nature of her talent and artistry: for example, the variations movement from Bach's famous violin partita, in a diabolically difficult version transcribed by Ferruccio Busoni.
Mariam Batsashvilit was nominated for the Rising Stars programme by: Bozar Brussels & Het Concertgebouw Amsterdam
