"I probably wouldn't be able to live my life without the sung voice. I wouldn't be able to spend my entire life conducting only symphonies, for example.” So said conductor György Vashegyi at an earlier interview, and he remains true to his words at this concert as well, having chosen the orchestral works of Cherubini, a French composer rooted in Classicism, and the Romantic Johannes Brahms, known as an advocate of Classical traditions, alongside operatic arias by Mozart.

Emőke Baráth began her secondary vocal studies at what was then called the King Saint Stephen Secondary School of Music under József Hormai and continued them at the Liszt Academy with Júlia Pászthy. In addition to her appearances at the Hungarian State Opera, she has also starred at many prestigious festivals at home and abroad, most often in the works of Baroque and Viennese Classical composers. György Vashegyi is the president of the Hungarian Academy of Arts. Since 1992, he has taught early chamber music, basso continuo, early music performance practice, understanding of the repertoire and early music history at the Liszt Academy. He is also credited with founding two excellent early music ensembles: the Purcell Choir and the Orfeo Orchestra. As this programme proves, he is also happy to interpret the works of 19th-century composers.
