Featured at this concert by the MÁV Symphony Orchestra are works by Italian composers. Rossini was the first Italian Romantic opera composer, while Paganini was a great innovator of violin playing, and Respighi created his symphonic works evoking the city of Rome using 20th-century compositional tools. Taking the podium for this colourful programme will be the Italian conductor Antonello Allemandi, with Paganini's ‘diabolically' difficult and demanding violin part played by one of the finest Hungarian virtuosos of our time, Barnabás Kelemen.

Milan-born Antonello Allemandi was already conducting public concerts by the age of 21 and has since become a globe-trotting maestro. In the autumn of 2022, he conducted the MÁV Symphony Orchestra in a production of Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoori at the Hungarian State Opera. This programme for this evening features works by three Italian composers. One of Rossini's dramatic operas, William Tell kicks off with an extremely popular symphonic poem-like overture. Tackling the compositions of Paganini, ‘the devil's violinist', is a difficult but rewarding task for any performer. Respighi's symphonic poems about Rome are deservedly popular and impactful concert pieces, and at this concert the audience will also get to discover a less well-known work with a biblical theme.
