In the second evening of a joint concert series of the Dohnányi Orchestra Budafok and the Palace of Arts presenting classical love stories and adaptations involving associated branches of the arts, the audience can enjoy Jacques Offenbach's timeless retelling of the Orpheus story. Rich in catchy and rousing melodies, this satirical operetta from 1858 will be presented in semi-staged form under the exciting direction of Csaba Káel. On this occasion, the orchestra stages a joint production for the first time with choreographer Marianna Venekei and her contemporary dance company. The piece retains relevance for today in holding up a distorted mirror to ourselves: it is in this work that we first encounter celebrity as we understand it today, as well as the increasingly prominent role of Public Opinion. In addition, with captivating charm and humour, the operetta portrays the contradictions between the truisms of declared public morals and our inherent immorality.
