Energy, excitement, enthusiasm - this is jazz, which has journeyed from America to every corner of the world, developing a slightly different flavour in every place. It has been said that jazz is as colourful and as varied as the finest ice cream parlour in the world, where every item is delicious and the choice is enormous. You can try classics like chocolate and vanilla, or some truly gourmet options. The stars of the The Instruments of Jazzland series are the instruments themselves, whose stories are narrated by the teachers and students of the jazz department of the Liszt Academy.

Did you know that, thanks to the unique qualities of the instrument, you can only learn to play jazz double bass relatively late, once your body is sufficiently developed? Is it true that in a jazz group, the double bassists imperceptibly steer the music? Does it even make sense to talk about who the ‘boss' is? When it comes to rhythm, perhaps most people will first think of the drums. And of a conventional drum kit. Yet when it comes to jazz, there are so many other (almost exclusively African) percussion instruments we could mention that, over the centuries, have been played in a variety of rituals, wedding nuptials and coming of age ceremonies in distant lands. According to the old hit from the group Hungária, the multimillionaire jazz drummer has lightning fast hands and is a cool guy from Pest. Now we will find out if it's true or not. The teachers and students of the Liszt Academy's jazz department will also reveal the secret to a great sound and the best rhythm.
