The winner of three Oscars, 2014's Whiplash is one of the most memorable music-themed films of the past ten years. Set in a music school, this story of a promising and ambitious drummer and a ruthless music teacher shows the cost in work, largely over the course of the stressful - generating blood, sweat and tears - practice sessions, rehearsals and the performances that crown them, it takes for talent to be transformed into a perfect show. In this two-part live production combined with a screening of the film, we can experience all of this up close, as drummer André Charlier mirrors each and every drum beat in the film with pinpoint precision. The music is performed live, perfectly synchronized with the film, by the brilliant Multiquarium Big Band.

The divisive film Whiplash, depicting the often merciless world of a New York jazz school, premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, where it received several awards - and more recently it has been voted the best film in the festival's history. Director Damien Chazelle (whose other works include La La Land) collected five Oscar nominations for it, with the soundtrack picking up a Grammy nod as well. A major factor to the film's success in addition to the wonderful acting of Miles Teller, who plays the determined student, and J. K. Simmons, who plays the unrelenting music teacher, was the contribution of composer Justin Hurwitz. And now we will get the chance to experience the music live, while watching the film on the screen set up behind the band. Led by pianist Benoït Sourisse and drummer André Charlier, the Multiquarium Big Band will take on the task of performing the entire soundtrack - along with the jazz standards - exactly as seen on the screen. We can look forward to witnessing a breathtaking artistic feat!

The film will be shown in English with Hungarian subtitles.
