'This instrument has not yet been fully discovered; it is full of as yet unrevealed possibilities. Electric versions have been created of every other instrument, but not the cimbalom - not that this is so important in and of itself, but it represents a jump to the next level, which in our case has not happened yet,' said cimbalist Miklós Lukács, the initiator of the BMC International Cimbalom Competition to the publication folkMAGazin. Also sure to be discussed by the panel is the question of how much ground there is to be gained in various directions by this instrument that is considered an iconic part of Hungarian culture. Moderator Endre Liber, artistic director of the concert and festival organiser Hangvető, will be directing his questions to cimbalom the competition winners Mykhaylo Zakharya, Dániel Szabó , Erzsébet Gódor and Sándor Ürmös, as well as jury members Ágnes Szakály and Miklós Lukács. Visitors will get to hear everything there is to hear about the history, use and future of the cimbalom by those masters of the instrument who have done everything in their power to make it as familiar a sight as any other instrument, regardless of whether the genre is folk, jazz or contemporary. And this applies to both Hungary and - considering the large number of participants in the competition from abroad - internationally as well.
