The 30-year-old pianist, drummer and composer Áron Tálas is one of the most noteworthy figures among Hungary's younger jazz generation. A few years ago, he made his début at an afternoon Jazz Showcase performance, and now - at his 2018 concert - he was playing with Pat Metheny's favourite guitarist.
The pianist and composer leads his own two bands: the Áron Tálas Trio and Flight Modus, the latter playing groove-based music that spans different styles. In 2013, he and his band won the Hungarian Jazz Federation's Jazz Combo Competition: in the same year, he received the Junior Prima Award, and two years later made it to the finals in the piano category at the Montreux Jazz Festival, in addition to winning a Gramofon Award later on. In 2015, he graduated from the Liszt Academy, where he still works as a répétiteur. He also teaches at the jazz department of the Bartók Conservatory.
The trio he formed with double bassist József Barcza Horváth, a key figure in the Hungarian jazz scene, and drummer Attila Gyárfás, another young musician who is gaining increasing acclaim in both the Netherlands and at home in Hungary, released its first record Floating Island in Japan in 2016, and it was followed by the second album Little Beggar released by BMC Records which earned the Gramofon Award later on. Tálas is also a permanent member of Mihály Borbély's band, Zoltán Lantos's Opensource, the Júlia Karosi Quartet and Tzumo Exclusive. He has already played together with such international stars as Dave Liebman, Nils-Petter Molvær, Eivind Aarset, Ed Neumeister and New York Voices. This time around, he was adding Mike Moreno, one of New York's most sought-after guitarists, to this list.

This recording was made at a concert held at Müpa Budapest on 1 February 2018.
