Melody Gardot owes her life and art to miracles. After a promising career was interrupted by a seemingly calamitous accident, the American singer returned to life and the stage through music, going on to become a multiple gold and platinum-selling, Grammy-nominated performer. For her fifth album, 2018's Live in Europe, she has chosen only audience favourites - her gift to her fans.
New Jersey-born Gardot sang and played piano in Philadelphia clubs as a teenager. In 2003, she suffered serious injuries after being hit riding her bicycle by a car that ran a red light, and had to recapture her fundamental capabilities as a consequence. As part of her therapy, she learned to play guitar in hospital and began writing songs, and not only started to regain her abilities, but produced the songs that would find their way onto her debut EP, Some Lessons: The Bedroom Sessions, which earned her instant recognition. Her distinctive voice, and a personality radiating strength and nobility, gained her a broad fan base. Less than a year had passed before she was spotted by radio station WXPN, which previously helped launch the glittering career of Norah Jones. Gardot quickly found herself at one of the leading record labels under the wing of producer Larry Klein - and on the threshold of international fame. Her albums Worrisome Heart in 2006, My One and Only Thrill in 2009, and The Absence in 2012, generated gold and then platinum record sales. Her brand new record, containing a selection of hits recorded between 2012 and 2016, is her first live album. This concert at Müpa Budapest likewise promises to be full of audience favourites.
