Up To The Surface was formed by students at the Liszt Academy, before later developing into an independent project. The bulk of the group's show is formed from self-written compositions that reflect the current musical influences of the members. Their greatest inspiration is the sounds and styles of 1960s jazz band combos.

Gergő Szabó began playing the piano at the age of seven. His path has been guided by Richárd Révész, Máté Pozsár and Áron Tálas at the Béla Bartók Conservatory, János Nagy at the Etűd Conservatory, and Kálmán Oláh at the jazz department of the Liszt Academy. Gergő graduated in 2021, before beginning a master's degree in 2023. Dániel Cseke also began playing music at seven years of age, in the city of Nagykanizsa. He was a student of Béla Vámos at the Farkas Ferenc Music School. Dániel also learnt a great deal as a member of the Kanizsa Big Band. In 2023, he graduated as a jazz saxophone teacher from the Liszt Academy. Brúnó Barakonyi began learning the bass guitar from György Szentgallay at 11 years of age, before graduating in jazz double bass from the Bartók-Pikéthy Secondary School of Music in Vác. He is currently a student at the Liszt Academy, as well as a member of the Lilla Orbay Quintet, the Négyessy Barnabás Quartet, the Tűzkő Salamon Quintet, the Neuschl Armand Trio, the AMT Collective, The Bligëts and the Harakiri Maggotz. Bence Baranyi began playing drums when he was five. At the age of seven, he started taking lessons from Iván Nesztor. Together with his friends at the Béla Bartók Conservatory, Bence founded the Choose Cheese group, which has also performed at the Jazz Showcase. He graduated from the jazz department of the Liszt Academy in 2021. As a drummer, he is at home in any kind of style, while he also works as a sound technician in addition to playing music.
