Danish guitarist Jakob Bro and American saxophonist Joe Lovano recorded an excellent album called Once Around The Room in 2022 as a tribute to legendary American jazz drummer Paul Motian. A unique mix of musicians got together for the recording. The former Motian collaborators were joined by two famous rhythm sections. One of these came from the Brad Mehldau Trio: Jorge Rossy on drums and Larry Grenadier on double bass. The other is just as noteworthy: Drummer Joey Baron and Thomas Morgan on double bass from the Jakob Bro Trio. This line-up, together with Anders Christensen, has never played in Hungary before.

Jakob Bro is one of today's most acclaimed, award-winning jazz guitarists, and it's hardly a coincidence that he played with the legendary Paul Motian in the latter part of the drummer's career. Saxophonist Joe Lovano was a member of the iconic Paul Motian Trio together with guitarist Bill Frisell, who also collaborated with Bro. The tribute album, released by ECM, features a fellow Dane, Anders Christensen on bass, who also played regularly with Motian. The two rhythm sections are already established and impressive duos in their own right, so it is no exaggeration that the one-time line-up unites outstanding jazz musicians from different generations. This magnificent seven celebrates the musical legacy of drum icon Paul Motian in a big way, through fiery originals mostly written by Joe Lovano and Jakob Bro. They recall the idioms and idiosyncrasies which Motian brought to light over six influential decades behind the drums. A performance not to be missed!
