Friedrich Liechtenstein was born in East Germany as Hans-Holger Friedrich, and as a puppeteer felt right at home in the world of the theatre, making it no wonder that he would later become the artistic director of Berlin's Hansa Theater. Of course, such an iconic-looking character attracts the spotlight, so from the beginning of the 2000s he began to release songs that, while philosophical, poetic and danceable, were also quite derisive. Germany and the rest of the world first noticed him in a video by the popular house producer Solomun, which showed Liechtenstein dancing his way through both emblematic and everyday parts of Berlin. Then came a lighthearted commercial for a German food chain using a similar recipe: locations in Berlin coupled with Liechtenstein's stream of consciousness - and this finally brought a breakthrough for this man of the theatre who functions not least of all as a marketing guru (he is also credited for the advertising jingle Shave The Monkeys, with its unmistakable reference to an intimate form of body hair removal). With the jazzy, easy listening sound of his trio, he always enchants his listenership, regularly showing that his voice is just as unique as his ironic humour. Singing sometimes in German and sometimes in English, he and his charismatic personality will soon have the audience wrapped around his finger.
