Singing and the sound of the human voice create an uplifting atmosphere and are key elements of any celebration. Even more thrilling is the sound of vocal chords taking on the role of an entire orchestra, assuming parts that what require a fair number of musical instruments. Fool Moon, Hungary's leading pop a cappella ensemble, now has 17 years of success behind it. Its members ensured that a cappella music, pop music sung without instruments, enjoys unprecedented popularity with the Hungarian audience. Their humorous and entertaining concerts, which are also of a high technical quality and stylistically exacting, always have something to suit the fancy of both newcomers to the genre and more musically knowledgeable listeners. Their unusual music lessons, master classes and television appearances have contributed to other pop a cappella ensembles forming in Hungary.
So far, they can boast six full-length albums, eight international and Hungarian awards, numerous nominations and recognitions, as well as collaborations with Hungary's most illustrious performers of popular music. They are also responsible for the first pop a cappella hit in the history of Hungarian pop music, Kettesben jó, which received radio play after gaining exposure through Sherlock Holmes nevében (In the name of Sherlock Holmes), a film aimed at young people. They also took second place in the Hungarian national qualifiers for the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest with their song It Can't Be Over.
As many films feature a cappella Christmas music in scenes of winter ice-skating, this heart-warming sound is a must at Müpa Budapest's Advent ice rink.
