Linguist, poet, translator and university professor Ádám Nádasdy has been a defining figure in Hungarian cultural life for several decades, and is an extremely colourful personality. Visitors to the theatre have surely encountered his 'poetic and brave-spirited' translations of Shakespeare, which earned him, among others, the Laurel Wreath prize of the Hungarian Republic, while lovers of lyrical genres have likely met with his volumes of poetry, for which he received the Milán Füst prize in 2000.
However, one of the most prominent living writers in the Hungarian language considers German his mother tongue, inherited through his mother of German-Italian descent. Through his family, he claims to be a civil conservative, insisting on a traditional system of values, but he speaks openly about his own homosexuality. 'One mustn't believe only while in the church, if they are a believer, but from morning to night, at the market and at school. And being gay shouldn't just be between four walls' - the professor says. Through his father, the legendary opera director Kálmán Nádasdy, and his mother, opera singer Lilian Birkás, classical music became a part of his everyday life - he himself studied piano as a child. On this evening we will learn Ádám Nádasdy's favourites from the world of jazz, which, of course, Erika Náray and her band willperform.
Audience members, who will be able to take their seats in the Bohém Restaurant on a first-come, first-served basis from 6 pm, receive a welcome drink and can enjoy dinner before or after the concert.
