Chick Corea left the ranks of the living on 9 February 2021, leaving an immeasurable void behind him. He did, however, bequeath to us a work commissioned by Müpa Budapest to mark the 15th anniversary of its existence. Although he was no longer able to present it to us personally, he is surely pleased as he looks down from above to know that when Müpa Budapest is two years older than 15, his friends and protégés will play his Concerto for Trio here for the first time anywhere in the world. We could hardly have a more adept rhythm section come together for this occasion, and there will also be a Hungarian artist taking his place at the piano.

Chick Corea would have paid his fourth visit to Müpa Budapest in November 2021 in order to present the three-movement work he wrote for the institution to his Hungarian fans. The première could not take place. Nevertheless, there was never any question on the part of either the artist's widow and management or of Müpa Budapest: the concert had to be put together in such a way that the Concerto, as well as other pieces recalling Chick's work, could be heard in a worthy setting. It is a tremendous pleasure and honour for us to get another chance to see John Patitucci on the bass and Dave Weckl behind the drums. And the participation of the three young pianists will not only serve as a musical curiosity: it will also allow us to hear the music of the future and make sure Chick's legacy is in good hands. Dániel Szabó, the eldest of the three pianists, is a well-known performer, composer and teacher both at home in Hungary and in the United States. He is a lecturer at the art faculties of the University of Pécs and the University of California, Los Angeles. Dániel was helped along his career path by Chick himself, as well as by Vince Mendoza, Peter Erskine and Danilo Perez. Beka Gochiashvili was born in Georgia in 1996 and has already played for the Müpa Budapest audience: with Stanley Clarke's band in 2017. The Israeli Gadi Lehavi is the same age as Gochiashvili and both began their careers as child prodigies. They performed with Corea and his fellow celebrated musicians at the Allen Room in New York at the age of 17.
