Béla Zsoldos, born into a musical family that has many famous offshoots, has been at the forefront of the Hungarian music scene since 1970. He has also been teaching for 40 years, and is currently an associate professor at the Liszt Academy. As a songwriter, instrumentalist and performer he has always been interested in high quality, elaborate yet highly entertaining musical solutions. Zsoldos hasn't limited himself to the world of jazz, however: he has also built a name for himself in the worlds of pop and classical music. He has appeared on several thousand concerts, radio and film score recordings, as well as more than 500 music albums. Both his choice of instrument and his personality dictate that he does not typically stand at the front of the stage. This means that in certain star performances at arena-style concerts, many people aren't even aware they are enjoying Zsoldos's songs, instrumentation or musical direction. At this jubilee concert, the Liszt Ferenc Prize-winning Béla Zsoldos and his guests will select from the songwriter and percussion soloist's rich oeuvre, including smash hits and pieces written especially for the occasion. We will also enjoy some virtuoso works for the vibraphone and big orchestra, giving us the chance to see how this special instrument works in tandem with a big band. In addition to the vibraphone, the timpani, marimba and the carillon - all instruments more typically used in classical music - will also play a starring role.
