These chaps really seem to have lost the plot! Either they're crazy, or the rest of us are. The Monty Python team first got together in Great Britain in 1969 and had created 45 television episodes of satirical sketches by 1974. Their darkly humorous, ironic and self-deprecating outlook created an entire school, even a cult. These five British writer-actors and an American animated filmmaker were able to create a cold-blooded satire about the media-obsessed era which even the subjects of their amusement could laugh at (though not as hard as the general public). They soon started making films too (Monty Python and the Holy Grail, The Life of Brian). Their last full-length film together was The Meaning of Life. The film doesn't quite give the answer to that ultimate question - really, what is the point of it all? - but depicts 24 scenes/sketches all the infinitely bizarre aspects of life, from the cradle to the grave. Including the stomach-churning depths of gastronomy.
There is method to the madness, though the film is only recommended if you are willing to overcome the basic truth found in lies and are capable of switching off from the machine of persuasion which, for 1,440 minutes of every day, tries to make us believe that other people's interests are our own. So, if you the kind of person who is sensitive to the finer points of brutality, then you are bound to notice that the individual sketches are parodies of everything from the spread of knowledge to musicals.
