There are many people who watch Tchaikovsky's fairy tale ballet over and over again as it is performed in countless versions on stages around the world. On this occasion, the story is told through the medium of modern ballet, because Christmas just wouldn't be the same without The Nutcracker.
The libretto of the ballet is based on the story The Nutcracker and Mouse King by German author E. T. A. Hoffmann. The main protagonist is Marie, who dreams of a battle between the Nutcracker and the Mouse King. The first part of the story takes place on Christmas Eve in councillor Stahlbaum's house, where Marie and her brother Fritz are looking forward to getting their presents. The children's godfather Drosselmeyer gives Marie a nutcracker doll. After all the excitement, the little girl goes to bed with her new toy. Her recent experiences return in her dreams and the puppets and toys come to life. The room is filled with mice, who launch an assault on the Christmas tree. A series of adventures begins. At the scene of the Land of Sweets in Act II, the Nutcracker fights the enormous Mouse King, before turning into a dashing prince and embarking on fantastic adventures with Princes Marie. Tchaikovsky's ballet will be performed in a modern interpretation by the dancers of the Szeged Contemporary Dance Company.
Between 9.45 and 10.30, we will be running a free playful, interactive session for children entitled Tune-Up. We look forward to welcoming groups and individuals who hold tickets to the subsequent performance.Register via e-mail to csip@mupa.hu, stating the number of participants and their ages, by the Wednesday before the performance at the latest. The activity is recommended for children aged 6 and over, and will take place with a minimum of six children.
