Gypsies have lived and breathed music and dance since ancient times. Wherever they appeared in the course of history, this proud people always took with them and preserved their own folk music, while also integrating into the musical culture of their environment. It is no different in Hungary, where they continue to nurture their musical traditions, singing their slow, lyrical songs and lively dance songs, while also becoming indispensible figures in Hungarian village and urban culture through their contribution to folk music, the verbunkos genre, Hungarian "nóta” songs, festive music and more contemporary genres, primarily jazz. Guszti Balogh and his companions bring with them the many colours of Gypsy music and convey to the concert audience the spellbinding power of an art that remains strong today.
