After their highly successful performances at the Opera Playhouse programme in recent seasons, the Budapest Strings are presenting a new youth series, which is now open to both kindergarten and primary school children, regardless of gender or year in school. What's more, these introductory sessions of the Music Stool series are sure to hold surprises for adults as well.

A musical walk through the zoo? And in the Glass Hall at Müpa Budapest, no less? Why not? This latest instalment of Music Stool shows that even animals have often inspired composers to create new works. The list is of course headed by birds, but other animals have also provided inspiration, whether it is the barking of a dog in Vivaldi, the buzzing of annoying winged insects in Rimsky-Korsakov, the cavorting of a fish in Schubert or the song of frogs by Telemann. But how does one imitate the sound of buzzing with musical instruments? And does the cat really whine as in Bibor's sonata? And what does the fox say, anyway? Well, these are the many questions that the Budapest Strings and Tamás Lakner will help answer at their November session. In addition to his university career as a well-known music teacher and conductor, Lakner has led the Béla Bartók Male Choir in Pécs since 1980 and has been playing music in the Szélkiáltó Ensemble, which performs sung poems, of which he is a founding member, for nearly 50 years. It is guaranteed that the young audience will be in good hands: all we have to do is occupy the Music Stool, where we can travel through the history of music without moving an inch.
