As children, which of us didn't try to beat a rhythm with two sticks? This rhythmic, repetitious production of sound was clearly music, even if we didn't realise it. So it has been for thousands of years: of the many members of the percussion family, drums are one of mankind's most ancient instruments. As an expression of the togetherness of the community, drumming is an essential part of many occasions, from sports events to festive parades. Now, rhythm games and improvisation will help provide you with a flavour of the joy of playing music together.

Drumming is good for you! Research has shown that it activates the areas of the brain responsible for non-verbal functions and linguistic expression, and also that a person experiencing the joy of drumming is filled with confidence. It is also used successfully as a form of therapy, as regular drumming is a great way to reduce stress and anxiety. Indeed, drumming has helped to forge real communities for thousands of years, even among those people who are not necessarily music enthusiasts. Károly Fehér and the members of the Ethnosound team's Drumming Experience session is also based on an ancient human characteristic. If you hear a good rhythm, you will find your hands and feet moving involuntarily in time, as bodies and instruments begin to work together to create something amazing, something never seen before. Participants will hear about all this and much more besides, and not just on a theoretical level. Everyone is given a real instrument in their hands. After encountering the djembe, goblet drum, cajón and cardboard cajón and learning about the important differences between them, our drum experts will show us how easy for you to create complex beats with your hands with the help of improvisation and rhythm games. This is the place to be if you are not a professional drummer but would like to experience the incomparable joy of playing music together!
